Another day goes by as the Premier League prepares for the new season and the end of the summer transfer window. Expect the news to come thick and fast between now and August 8th. Today’s Premier League transfer roundup includes an offer made by Juventus for Romelu Lukaku, Brighton’s bid for Adam Webster and Everton’s interest in Mario Lemina.
Juve make Lukaku bid
Report: The Sun is reporting that Juventus have made an offer of £10m plus Mario Mandzukic and Paulo Dybala for striker Romelu Lukaku. Dybala’s switch could be an issue, as he apparently wants parity with United’s top earners.
Verdict: The 26-year-old Belgium international wants to leave Old Trafford this summer, that much has already been made clear, and the Old Lady have entered the race after Internazionale had looked like the favourites to sign him. Both Dybala and Mandzukic are coming off average seasons by their standards – they both netted 10 goals each in all competitions – and as such, they may not be a part of Maurizio Sarri’s new plans in Turin. The one issue could be the former Bayern Munich forward’s age. He is 33 years old and does not have long left in him. Having said that, he would be a great option to have as a back up to Marcus Rashford, who may finally get his wish to play through the middle for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team.

Brighton offer £20m for Webster
Report: According to Sky Sports’ Transfer Blog (30/07, 14.50), Brighton have made a bid of £20m plus add-ons for Bristol City defender Adam Webster. The Seagulls are hopeful that a deal can be completed for the centre-back.
Verdict: It is a sign of the times in England that a player who has only once in his career made more than 28 league appearances in a single season, and not one in the country’s top tier, can be the subject of an eight-figure bid, but that is exactly the case with 24-year-old Webster. It is not as though Brighton lack options in defence, and they have already signed Matt Clarke from Portsmouth during this transfer window. The former Ipswich Town centre-back may well be a decent footballer, but Lee Johnson and co would surely be mad not to accept such a big offer for a player whose C.V is lacking in top-level experience.

Everton eye Lemina
Report: It is being reported by Sky Sports that Everton are interested in signing Mario Lemina from Southampton. The Toffees are one of a number of clubs interested in the Gabon international, including Manchester United and Arsenal.
Verdict: With Idrissa Gueye having completed his move to PSG, Everton require another defensive midfielder, and Lemina could fit the bill. The former Juventus man’s stats did not differ too much from the Senegal international’s last season – only in the tackling department was there any real difference – whilst the 25-year-old even managed to score one goal, which Gueye failed to do. There must be a reason, though, why PSG, one of Europe’s biggest clubs, made the former Lille man such a priority, whilst his Saints counterpart remains on the South coast. Ralph Hassenhuttl and co are only looking for £18m for the midfielder though, which would leave the Merseyside club with a handy profit of around £10m.
